| Learning outcomes | The business programme seeks to provide students with: • knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of economics and business, including the functional fields of accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, information systems, and operations; • the ability to use these principles to understand the ways in which economies and businesses work; • deeper specialist knowledge and understanding in chosen subject areas; • an appreciation of the wider world in which businesses operate; • the knowledge and skills necessary to collect, analyse and interpret the sorts of quantitative and qualitative information found in the worlds of economics and business; • the ability to present results and ideas effectively, both on paper and orally; • the ability to work effectively in teams and organisations. The successful graduate should be prepared to pursue further study at the graduate level in business, to begin a career in business, public administration and non-profit organisations, and possibly to start his or her own business. General skills in finding, analyzing and synthesising information, in critical thinking, communication, and skills in approaching more complex problems and longer term research endeavours are developed across the College’s curriculum. This is done both in the Academic Core courses, and via activities such as the Honours Thesis/Essay. |
