| Learning outcomes | The International Affairs major aims to provide students with tools to understand the global political economy and world society, to able to evolve with changes and influence them. The combination of courses seeks to provide students with an understanding of the changing global conditions and their impact on relations among communities, institutions, and political and social groups.
The International Affairs program provides students with a knowledge base about the processes of international affairs and governance from the perspectives of the disciplines of economics, history, sociology and political science. It equips students with an understanding of theoretical frameworks from which to interpret and understand the complex dynamics of modern international political, social and economic interaction. It gives the skills to carry out quantitative and qualitative inquiry, apply these skills to real-life case studies and clearly communicate their results. Finally it aims to enhance the competence of students to work in multi-cultural settings thanks to a focus on languages, the international collaboration between students and faculty and use of the opportunities provided in Brussels.
The programme develops knowledge across disciplines, and enhances the integration of insights from various fields. The international dimensions of the course offerings stress global awareness and should develop a sense of the connections between global events and local consequences. An awareness of the role of responsible and critical research in addressing international questions is provided by engaging students with research-oriented professors. Finally the study of international affairs in this programme stimulates social engagement in the world community. A choice of concentration in European Studies, Politics, History or Economics permits students to specialise in an interest area.
The successful graduate of the International Affairs program can continue study at the graduate level in international affairs, defense studies, economics, politics, history, and globalization studies. They are also prepared for careers in government, diplomacy, journalism, law, business, public administration, policy analysis, and political research and consulting.
