Higher Education in Flanders

The Royal Conservatoire of the Artesis University College of Antwerp comprises three well-known colleges of performing arts. Internationally reputed artists are alumni of these institutions, which continue to provide high-quality education for future performing artists.

The scope of the education they offer is based on the European Credit Transfer System: 60 ECTS credits per academic year. This is the equivalent of minimum 1500 and maximum 1800 hours of education and other study activities. The ECTS credit system facilitates transfers between different European universities and institutes of higher education.

Art and art education are by definition international. This is demonstrated at the Conservatoire by: the considerable number of foreign students the diverse origins of the teaching staff participation in a broad international network integration in an international art campus. The fact that the staff and student population is international and that the Conservatoire is integrated into an international art campus makes for internationalization on the spot. Especially through the international composition of staff, student and teacher population and the integration in the international art campus, ’internationalisation at home’ is realised.

The courses in dance techniques provide a comprehensive underpinning for students’ development into professional performing dancers.

Modern & contemporary dance: here the objective is to provide dancers with a high degree of skill in the successful performance of innumerable dance styles. The accent during the lessons is on the application of technical dance training, which is constantly developing in terms of both form and content and interacting with other forms of art and contemporary trends. In each teaching component different basic patterns of movement are combined to form a dance entity involving their particular dynamic and character.
