| Profile | This education is possible in daytime courses and through distance education. If you have just finished secondary school, you choose daytime courses. If you want to combine a job and a family life with studies to get an (extra) diploma, you choose for distance education. You can start both daytime courses and distance education in September and in February. In September there is an introductory course in chemistry. Those with a limited knowledge to start with, can prepare themselves in this optional course. |

| Combine work and study | Organization Teaching method: Facilities Study and teaching materials:
A Study Guidance Document per course and a general Distance Education Guide has been drafted for working students and/or this information is included in the course documentation. Students have access to a specific online community with a discussion forum. The digital learning platform is also used to present additional learning materials. Additional support: Guided self study, use of a discussion forum, on-campus coaching sessions. Coaching is also done through the electronic learning platform.
Evaluation method: Written tests and tasks are directed to the compentences associated with the course. Exams are organised outside of typical working hours (i.e. between 6 and 9pm). |

| Learning outcomes | In this education you are trained to become a professional bachelor in Agro- and biotechnology. After graduation, you are ready to take on responsible functions in planning, execution, control and follow-up. There are four graduation options: agricultural industry, animal care, greenmanagement and agriculture.
In the graduation option ‘agricultural industry‘ you learn all there is to know about ‘foodmanagement’, from the processing of food products to the conservation, distribution and selling techniques. The emphasis is on the safety and quality of our food, from producer tot consumer. In the graduation option ‘animal care’ you learn all there is to know about welfare and behaviour of animals, from the issue of and public trends in animal behaviour to the breeding, training and taking care of small and large (pet and farm) animals. In the graduation option ‘greenmanagement’ you learn all there is to know about ‘management of the green environment’ and ‘cropmanagement’, from public trends in management of nature, garden and park areas to the cultivation of plants in general (vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants). In the graduation option ‘agriculture’ you learn all there is to know about breeding, husbandry and taking care of farm animals, about crop management, landscape management and mechanization.
After graduation you master the following competences to start as a young professional:
· Adopts an ethically responsible or sustainable attitude towards living matter or in function of living matter in agricultural and biotechnical sectors · Is technically competent in agricultural and biotechnical sectors · Acts in an economically and legally responsible way in agricultural and biotechnical sectors · Manages work units in agricultural and biotechnical sectors · Uses and elaborates quality management systems in agricultural and biotechnical sectors

| Prospects | The field of activity of the bachelor in Agro- and biotechnology varies according to the graduation option: · Agricultural industry: nutrition companies in general, eg in the sector of soft drinks, soups en fruit juices, chocolate and cookies, breweries, meat products, diaries, cereals, potato products, processing of vegetables, frozen food, cannery, distribution, farm animal nutrition,… · Animal care: animal training, animal nutrition, animal welfare, animal parks, animal hotels, animal shelters, animal husbandry, laboratory animals,… · Greenmanagement: landscape, nature conservation and forestry, open space planning and laying-out of gardens, technique and mechanization, tree cultivation, cultivation of vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants ,… · Agriculture: farm animal nutrition, farm animal rearing, animal husbandry, arable farming, mechanization, industrial buildings and equipments, distribution,…

| Direct access | You need a diploma of secondary school to start the education, in daytime courses as well as through distance education. If you don’t have a diploma secondary education, you can only be admitted if you succeed in an admission test and fulfil some extra conditions. |
