| Learning outcomes | The Chemistry training programme aspires to enable students to acquire due knowledge, understanding and practical skills and to gain a duly scientific method of thinking. Students are also enabled to prepare for a teaching career by way of a series of specific elective degree courses. Specifically, the training programme is designed to: - offer Master students an in-depth training in the main disciplines of chemistry, with the inclusion of biochemistry and environmental chemistry, and their respective applications; - to bring students up to par with the latest developments in at least one specialist area; - teach students to situate the importance of chemistry in everyday life, the environment and society; - to teach students how to put forward solutions for scientific issues in a self-reliant and scientifically responsible manner; - to familiarise students with the relevant scientific literature; - to teach students how to interpret scientific results with a due sense of scientific critique and to draw pertinent conclusions from such results; - to enable students to familiarise themselves on an ongoing basis with new scientific knowledge, in particular in the field of chemistry, with the inclusion of biochemistry and environmental sciences; - to teach students how to use recent information technology resources in collating and assimilating information, in conducting experiments or making calculations and in reporting on research performed or in the transfer of knowledge to the next generations; - to teach students how to report on their work, both orally and in writing, and/or to use the same skills in transferring discipline-related know-how; - to sensitise students to social developments and the impact thereof on man, the environment and society at large; - to instil due insight into students into the hazards that come with conducting experimental research and to teach them to duly understand and apply safety measures (inspection report § 1). Requirements held out for chemistry master graduates : 2.Graduates are to have developed the attitudes and the right problem-solving skills to enable them to operate in a scientifically professional and ethically responsible manner as a chemical engineer. 3. The ability to conduct experimental research using chemical products. |
