The conversion on real scale of natural raw materials (petroleum, ores, bio mass, etc.) in daily used products is the main task of the process industry. This master program aims mainly the design and control of these chemical processes on an industrial scale.
Because of the multidisciplinary character of the processes the education covers various professional areas. Gaining knowledge and insight inthe most important unit operations is the central issue: reactors, separation processes, water purification and water treatment.
Other important aspects are process control and automation.
The curriculum further pays a lot of attention to sustainable process technology and energy technology, including renewable energy resources. A chemical process technologist has a prominent role in the reconciliation of  economy and ecology.
This engineering program differs from other engineering curricula because of its strong practical character with a lot of laboratory sessions, an intense cooperation with industrial partners and active participation in applied and industrial research.

A industrial engineer in chemical process technology is a practical and all-round process engineer who is employable in many sectors of the chemical industry: petrochemistry, pharmacy, nutrition, invironmental techology, etc.
He/she designs equipment for chemical processes and follows the operation.
Also the amelioration of such equipment, to aim the improvement of economical, energetical and environmental aspects, is part of the job.
The wide range of practical and technical knowledge can be used for applied research, e.g. to investigate how innovative technologies can be applied in the company of in a whole new area.
Besides he/she can be employed in other functions that are connected with industrial activities, such as technical-commercial functions.
