| Learning outcomes |
- Fundamental knowledge and insight in the basic sciences biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and geology - Profound knowledge and insight in the molecular biosciences biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, physiology, immunology and bio-informatics, as well as in associated current techniques - Knowledge and insight in structure, reactivity and function of biomolecules, both in relation to structure and functioning in the cell, and in natural processes taking place at the level of cells, tissue and organism - Ability to autonomously retrieve information on a defined theme in the biochemical and biotechnological literature, to synthesize this information, and to present this in a clearly written and oral report - Ability to make use of public sequence and structure databases - Ability to autonomously carry out biochemical and biotechnological basic laboratory techniques according to prescribed protocols - Ability to carry out integrated biochemical and biotechnological experiments under supervision according to prescribed strategies, to process and interpret results thereof, and to present these in a written and oral report - Ability to perform student teamwork and to communicate results thereof - Ability to substantiate a scientific point of view on a biochemical issue and to defend it against lecturers and students - Research attitude that takes into account chemical and biological safety to man as well as to the environment - Insight in the ethical implications of being active as biochemist-biotechnologist; ability to substantiate his point of view on a given ethical issue |
