Master of Management Graduates from the Master of Management program must have developed the required management knowledge and management skills to help them advance their careers in the business world. The participants are thus expected to be able to combine a good insight into organizations/enterprises with an insight in/understanding of the environment with professional knowledge, social skills, and potential leadership abilities. Graduates should be able (independently and in group context) to tackle specific tasks within a business context in a ‘strategic’ fashion and to bring them to a satisfactory conclusion. No previous work experience is required. Core competencies of the Master 1. The acquisition of a thorough knowledge about the various management functions, namely accounting, finances, marketing, production & operational management, and human resource management. 2. The integration of the diverse management functions into a vision about the development of the organization, with a focus on a well-balanced decision-making process (strategic management as integrative function). 3. The ability to evaluate possibilities and opportunities in an ever-changing world within the context of a given organization (strategic management as perspective: development of a strategic perspective on the relationship between the company and the environment). 4. Re-enforcing attitudes such as initiative, entrepreneurship, leadership, willpower and perseverance, self-control and self-motivation, a sense of reality. 5. The development of social and communicative skills, leadership, and collaboration in a group context. 6. Realism and practical orientation. 7. Insight in and understanding of contemporary developments such as increasing globalization and internationalization, and the technological (r)evolutions (ICT, and the like). 8. The development of the ability to scientifically tackle problems and business issues. This involves, amongst others: a To arrive independently (and in team context) at the formulation of a scientifically-based problem scenario within business-related situations. b To design an adapted research methodology. c To gather and critically analyze empirical data and conceptual frames of thoughts in order to achieve scientifically supported knowledge. 9. The development of a critical and scientific view on methods and techniques of business management research.
